A key component of asthma management is self-management education, during which patients and families learn to use prescribed asthma-control medicines and equipment correctly, recognize early symptoms of an asthma episode and respond appropriately, and mitigate asthma triggers in homes and other environments. This brief examines Medicaid coverage for asthma self-management education in 10 states, including the range of services, providers, and settings covered by Medicaid plans.
